The President.
Amongst the watch collecting realm, there are pieces made with a utilitarian goal on bracelets, then there are watches made with elegance on leather straps. This is certainly a piece that represents both elements in pure class.
An iconic and pioneering piece, the Rolex Day-Date is heralded long as a prestigious symbol and synonymous from leaders, athletes, professionals and businessman etc as 'The President' - the flagship offering from Rolex. The inception in 1956 with the Reference 1803 has left a long heralded trail of collectibility as one of the most highly regarded series and well-known wristwatches we see today with its 5 digit and 6 digit predecessor, all dating back to this 4 digit exemplar as a representation of both history and class.
The Day-Date series hosted over a hundred dials with some being incredibly exotic and extremely low-volume produced, with a particular rule of only choosing precious metal for its creation.
In comparison to the modern series in rose gold, yellow gold and white gold presidential bracelet, Reference 1803 is sold back in the AD’s with a choice of leather strap or presidential bracelet with big crown clasp. This particular example features a champagne-gold dial with sheen reflections of glamour under light. The intricate sunburst texture retracts and reflects depth of light as much as the gold which complements tone-on-tone. Sealing off the top is the early period dial, oxidized hour markers and MK-I day & date wheel in beige tone to finalise the piece.
The 1803 remains in extremely sharp and exceptionally clean condition and belongs to its extra fat case period produced during the 70s.
