The Rolex Explorer is perhaps one of the most celebrated, known and produced utilitarian watches to date. Following its inception towards Mount Everest in 1953, the first generation Rolex Explorer ‘1016’ remained as one of Rolex’s longest production span with a highly respected and collectible status. The roots of Explorer is perhaps a success of Ref. 6350 ‘Bubbleback’, with an addition of the oscillation weight changing the case size which caused Rolex to develop the explorer. The iconic 3,6,9 setting among earliest Explorers has encompassed its DNA and influenced multiple wristwatches by any other watchmakers.

In our opinion the modern development of an Explorer has always combined reliability, proportion and function in the most reductive way. The standard Explorer has always been made in highly machined steel, with the modern offering in Two-Tone which adds a slightly glamoured touch to the all rounder. Regardless of the surge in independent watchmaking, legendary makers ie. Phillip Dufour and Roger Smith have both been seen wearing the Rolex Explorer in their atelier.
